Robert Gabriel has announced that the first beta release of Kongoni GNU/Linux 2011, a Slackware-based desktop distribution, is ready for download and testing: "The time has come for the first release of Kongoni 2011. This release brings almost everything new, start-up scripts where cleaned up or somewhat rewritten, themes and wallpapers were updated, new applications were added (over 300 new applications in the repository), fully removed hal and added udisks and upower, KDE has been migrated to the Kongoni repository, kernel setup and configuration totally changed and now most parts of the kernel are built as modules, added Dracut as a initramfs image creator.
