Vine Linux是一套集成了日语环境的Linux发行，它适用于桌面个人电脑和笔记本电脑。Vine项目由JPE（日语扩展计划）的六位成员于1998年创 立，依靠许许多多的成员和志愿者的帮助，Vine Linux的发展得到了推进。Vine Linux的开发版叫Vine Seed，它向公众开放，所有的开发人员都被欢迎加入进来并贡献他们的成果。大多数的应用程序都提供对Kanji字典的支持。日文输入支持则由 FreeWnn（在商业CR版中是Wnn6）或者Canna输入服务器来提供。
Daisuke Suzuki has announced the first release candidate for Vine Linux 4.2, a Japanese community distribution for desktops and servers. This is the second maintenance release of the Vine Linux 4.x series; if no major bugs are found, the final version can be expected in about 10 days from today. The most important changes since version 4.1 are the inclusion of various new or updated device drivers into the kernel (forcedeth, 3w-9xxx, r8169, intel-agp, tg3, suspend2, e1000e, atl1, Broadcom NetXtremeII...), addition of new packages (scim-bridge, Totem plugin for Mozilla, usbutils and ipw3945 driver utilities), incorporation of all errata and security fixes, and package updates (Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.11, LVM 2.02.28, device-mapper 1.02.22, dvd+rw-tools 7.0...).
