Indiana是一个由OpenSolaris源码打包成的操作系统的二进制发行版。这个发行版是一些OpenSolaris.org上项目的整合，包括那些使得安装经历更加简单的、使桌面上的OpenSolaris看上去和感觉都更加现代化、把基于网络的包管理系统引入到Solaris中。最后的发行版是一个live CD安装镜像，而且任何人都有完全的许可来重新发布。
The first development preview ofIndiana, the eagerly anticipated OpenSolaris-based operating system for the desktop, is ready for download and testing: "I'm very pleased to announce that the first milestone of Project Indiana is now available - called OpenSolaris Developer Preview. This is an x86-based live CD install image, containing some new and emerging OpenSolaris technologies. Among the features contained in this release are: single CD download, with live CD 'try before you install' capabilities; Caiman installer, with significantly improved installation experience; ZFS as the default file system; Image packaging system, with capabilities to pull packages from network repositories; GNU utilities in the default $PATH; Bash as the default shell; GNOME 2.20 desktop environment."
