The first release candidate of FreeNAS 0.685, a FreeBSD-based operating system which provides free Network-Attached Storage services, has been released for download: "Today FreeNAS 0.685RC1 has been released. Changes: modified build scripts; upgrade PHP to 5.2.4; upgrade lighttpd to 1.4.17; make login procedure more FreeBSD style, now we have 7 consoles available (via Alt-Fx keys), root is auto-login on ttyv0, environment is now set correctly, PATH is also correct; refactor time control used on various WebGUI pages like rsync or scheduled shutdown; restrict file access for FTP users to /mnt only; modified file permissions for configuration files to 0600; added patch for new hardware revision of D-Link DGE-528T PCI card...."
