Sabayon是一份自启动运行DVD，它被设计为能在5分钟以内使一台电脑进入强大的Gentoo Linux系统。Gentoo Linux是一份Linux发行，它由软件安装管理引擎Portage来驱动。除了作为自启动运行DVD使用，Sabayon Linux也能安装到硬盘上，实际上相当于一张易于使用的Gentoo安装盘。该自启动运行DVD包含了大量的桌面环境及开源应用软件，例如KDE、 GNOME、XFce、Fluxbox、KOffice、OpenOffice.org、FreeNX、amaroK、Kaffeine等等。
Fabio Erculiani has announced the availability of a public development build (called "Loop") of SabayonLinux 3.4: "The Sabayon Linux crew is happy to announce the first development release of the 3.4 branch! New features and improvements since the 3.3 release: updated Linux kernel to 2.6.21-rc5 supporting the DeviceScape wireless stack; updated Genkernel to 3.4.7, ATI drivers to 8.35.5, NdisWrapper to 1.41, GNOME to 2.18; fixed some bugs in KDE and on the KickOff menu; x86 Edition - added VirtualBox 1.3.8; SabayonLinux BinMerge utility (binmerge) - a small emerge wrapper to install pre-compiled packages from our online package repository; SabayonLinux Installer updated to the latest SVN - many bugs fixed; updated DeviceScape wireless stack patches...."
